What is a Smudging/Cleansing?
The practice of Smudging is traditionally a Shamanic way to cleanse and heal people, places, objects, and land of unwanted energies and spirits that are unharmonious. Ceremonially, the cleansing includes creating sacred space through the employment of drumming, rattling, chanting and prayer, along with the burning of sacred plants and invoking the spiritual elements of Earth, Fire, Water, Wind and Spirit to heal and/or remove impure energies, sending them into the divine light of Great Spirit (God) and restore balance and harmony. Smudging is important for maintaining positive energy flow in your environment.
Clearings are important for maintaining a positive energy flow within your space. Smudgings will remove any unwanted or “negative” energy.
Home or business clearings usually take one to three hours, sometimes longer, contingent on the size of the space. If the grounds of the property also require cleansing, it will take additional time. Depending on the needs of the space being cleared, we use a variety of sacred herbs and/or oils to cleanse all areas of the home or business. Any people and/or animals present for the ceremony will also receive smudgings.
Chanting, prayer, shamanic drumming, rattling and/or bells will be used to move energy along with the burning of the sacred herbs/oils during the clearing process. If paranormal activity is detected, such as cold spots, spirit and/or “negative” energies, etc. we will remove, heal and/or disperse them from your home. Once the smudging is complete, your space will feel lighter and even may look brighter and will feel harmonious and balanced.

When Should You Smudge?
- You are experiencing strange energy (e.g., cold spots where there is no draft, negative vibes) or have a general sense of unease
- There are unexplained happenings occurring (e.g., paranormal activity such as unusual electrical problems, other utility phenomena, stationary objects taking flight)
- Strange sounds or smells, visions of spirits or shadows; have the sense you are being followed or watched
- You see that your pets avoid certain areas, or they look or act “strangely” in specific areas
- You are feeling a lot of negativity around you, such as a sensation of heaviness or unease and notice an increase of arguments and a general feeling of unrest and anger.
- When you move into a home or business, or want to renew the energy in your existing space
